Course Description & Objectives: 

This course aims at giving students skills in morbid anatomy, diagnostic histopathology and cytology.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  1. Describe and measure a gross specimen accurately and succinctly.
  2. Ink or otherwise mark resection margin.
  3. Select appropriate blocks to show lesions in relevant planes of sections including using protocols for minimum data sets where relevant.
  4. Request special processing e.g. decalcification, rapid processing, frozen sections.
  5. Handle different types of specimen appropriately according to the degree of clinical surgery.
  6. Recognize the difference between histological normal and abnormal tissue.
  7. Accurately describe the microscopic appearance and differentiate the important from the unimportant.
