Course Description & Objectives: 

This course equips students with advanced laboratory techniques and management skills necessary for effective running of school laboratories. The course puts emphasis on the safety of laboratory users and management of laboratory chemical wastes in schools.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Classify chemicals according to their hazardous classes
  • Formulate laboratory safety rules
  • Use the various instruments in the secondary school laboratory.
  • Design  suitable experiments to be carried out in a school setting
  • Prepare standard reagents
  • Carry out safety laboratory inspections
  • Handle laboratory accidents effectively
  • Effectively manage chemical wastes from a school chemistry laboratory
