Course Description & Objectives: 

The course will introduce the students to the biology of the honey bee including races and social behaviour and the practices of beekeeping.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Explain the scientific and socio-economic aspects of beekeeping
  • Relate bee biology and management to practical beekeeping situations
  • Apply bee management techniques
  • Develop and manage a progressive apiary for commercial purposes
  • Diagnose problems faced in  the bee industry in Uganda and present solutions.
  • Appreciate that investment in beekeeping is a reliable Income Generating Activity (IGA), and friendly to the environment
