Course Description & Objectives: 
  1. The course introduces students on the Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication to key issues and concepts in communication and media studies. It is an introductory course that surveys definitions, processes and key developments in theory and practice of Mass Communication.
  2. It will look at historical and contemporary issues from both a local and international perspective. The knowledge gained from the course will help the student to fully understand the working of the media and communication industry so they can practice journalism and communication effectively.
Learning Outcomes: 
  1. To help students understand the main concepts and issues in Mass Communication
  2. To enable students appreciate the working of the media in both historical and contemporary times
  3. To enable students to relate journalism and communication theory to practice
  4. To assist students gain the right depths of knowledge in the relevant issues and concepts so they can embark on a career in journalism and communication consciously, effectively and with interest.
