Course Description & Objectives: 

This course will focus on the organization of services (i.e. public health and prevention/ promotion services, primary care, hospitals, and long-term care). The role of the public and private sectors in health care and health policy will be presented, with special attention to the financing of health care, cost containment, managed care, fee-for-service, single payer plans, and employment linked health insurance. Vertical and horizontal integration of systems of care, access to care, utilization, and quality of care will be covered. This course will also explore health care for the under-served, alternative and complementary medicine and services, and health workplace issues, such as mal-distribution, surplus of specialists, multi-skills, under-representation of minorities, gender and race hierarchies, etc. In addition, the impact of technology and especially information technology on health care will be reviewed
