Course Description & Objectives: 

The course deals with in-depth study of the macro and micro-structure of softwoods and hardwoods. The course exposes students to comparative wood anatomy, comparing and discussing the systematic, ecological and evolutionary aspects of the wood of angiosperms and gymnosperms using light and scanning electron micrographs of wood features.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Identify different wood species using a hand lens and a microscope.
  • To apply the principles in processing and appropriate use of various wood species.
