This PhD Programme focuses on fundamental and applied research in the field of Art and Design. It is grounded in the professional disciplines of Art and design but also strongly encourages interdisciplinary study in Art and Design History, Art Criticism, Art and Social Equity, Art and Health, Design Communication, Design and Social Responsibility, Art and Gender, Material Culture, Art and Politics, Product and Systems design, and Art Education. These areas are explored by either theoretical research or through integrated-studio-research leading to the award of a PhD in any of the above art/design-related disciplines. The programme draws on the strengths of the human resource at MTSIFA, within the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology and in other colleges of Makerere University offering related or relevant courses.
