Course Description & Objectives: 

This course deals with epidemiological concepts and terminology, basic analytic techniques and research designs and the application of epidemiological information in public health.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Objectives:

  • To provide the students with knowledge and understanding of basic concepts in epidemiology, research strategies applied in the discipline and the uses that are made of epidemiological information in public health. 

 

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course, the student should be able to: 

  • Explain the concept of epidemiology,
  • Explain the principles of:
    •  Diseases association and causation;
    • Descriptive Epidemiology;
    • Analytical Epidemiology;
    • Inferential Epidemiology (Types of association, Evidence of causation; Koch’s postulates, and Hill’s criteria, Introduction to chance, bias, confounding and interaction)
    • Interventional Epidemiology
