Objectives:

  • At the end of the course the students should understand the nature and scope of the work of a speech and language therapist and the concept of ‘communication’ as understood by speech and language therapists
  • Students should have knowledge of a range of models on which to base their understanding of communication and communication breakdown
  • Students should be able to demonstrate awareness of the nature, cause and implications of the main types of communication disabilities in children and adults

  • Speech and language therapy world wide
  • Non-verbal and paralinguistic features of communication
  • Causes & classification of communication breakdown (in children and adults)
