Course Description & Objectives:

The phenomenal growth of metacriticism in the twentieth century has led to its being labeled as the "Age of Theory."  A firm grounding in contemporary literary theory is indispensable to current literary scholarship.  The unit introduces students to some of the most significant formulations of theory in this century.  The main aim of the course unit is to help the students understand the major literary discourses so that they may develop their own informed reflections on literature.
