Course Description & Objectives: 

The field study will enable the students to familiarise themselves with the organisational structure of the institution of their placement relating to disaster risk reduction as well health emergency management, response and mitigation. In order to acquire leadership and management skills, they will work closely with the organisation’s management. They will also be able to conceptualise health emergency and disaster related issues and the management interventions in place by the society or the community.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Objective:

  • To enhance the students’ research and management skills about health emergencies and disasters problems and the interventions by society and the community.
Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of this course, the student should be able to: 

  • Understand the organisational structure and services of the district or institution of placement with emphasis on health emergencies and disasters risk reduction and management activities;
  • Report the results of a case study of a disaster risk reduction and management/health emergency interventions in the institution of placement;
  • Write two concept papers on identified researchable health emergencies and disasters risk reduction and management
