Course Description & Objectives: 

This course will introduce learners to the challenges associated with entrepreneurship in the information profession. The course will help learners to analyse and integrate information science and entrepreneurship.  The course is designed to enable students develop skills in building businesses, investing in businesses, raising capital, and evaluating business opportunities in LIS By the time the students has completed this course they should be able to:

  • Understand the economic, legal, and managerial factors that influence the creation of wealth in information work
  • Learn how the strategy, marketing, financing, legal matters, and cash flow impact opportunities in terms of execution of growth, and how to position a new firm for success

 

Learning Outcomes: 

On completion students will be able to:

  • Describe the nature and importance of entrepreneurship in LIS environment
  • Identify opportunities and types of entrepreneur interventions in the area of LIS and their feasibility and economic potential.
  • Define steps and requirements in developing and establishing a LIS based business.
