Course Description & Objectives: 

By the end of the course the candidate should be in a position to manage minor psychiatric illnesses and psychosomatic disorders and should know when to ask for specialised psychiatric interventions.Psychiatry lectures include:

  •  introduction to mental health
  • psychiatric interviewing and examination
  •  investigating mental disorders (EEG interpretation)
  • organic mental disorders
  • functional psychoses
  • psychoneuroses
  • personality disorders
  • psychosexual disorders
  • psychosomatic disorders
  • child and adolescent psychiatry
  • sleep disorders
  • Anti-depressants
  • anxiolytics and neuroleptics
  • prescribing psychoactive drugs
  • other care/ management options is covered
  • The students receive extensive clinical exposure to and discussion of patients with mental illnesses
  • The student rotate in psychiatry wards for 6 weeks
