Course Description & Objectives: 

The course is vital for the introduction of the student to the basics of space perception and appreciation inarchitectural design. The course work will consist of three projects. The design problems will grow incomplexity and include exploring the design of a complex object, design of a space and of an artefact toaccommodate a body posture.Objectives:• To enable the student to develop Notational and observational Skills• To make student understand Anthropometry and ergonomics in relation to complex objects• Through exploratory studies and design exercises to analyze functional spaces and define impliedspace• To understand and define interactive space• To understand the relevance of the human dynamics(anthropometrics and ergonomics) in the design ofspace

Learning Outcomes: 

On completing the course the student should be able to:

  •  Appreciate the basic language, tools and approaches to architectural design
  •  Examine the major factors that influence design decisions -human behaviour, (anthropometrics and
  • Ergonomics ,image, order, symbolism, site and climate)
  •  Analysis and appreciate user needs ,
  •  Discover the idea of a context, to better understand how structure, material and scale affect purpose and function
  •  Understand the designed object as composed of both spatial and temporal form (temporal form is manifested through spatial form elements in use )
  •  Develop a Design philosophy
