This course focuses on the concept of Community Development, especially the need for community development (community problems arising from underdevelopment, development process, general poverty, deprivation and inequity). In addition, theoretical explanations of existing community problems and response to community problems through basic services: education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation will be discussed. Students will also discuss the practice of Community development including social organization, mobilization and sensitization, institutional capacity building, and empowerment. Discussion of the roles and skills of community development agents and other actors will form part of the core curriculum.
