Through readings, small and large group discussions, lecture, assignments and examinations, students will learn about the nature and scope of criminal law, the constitutional limits on criminal law, what constitutes a crime, and definition and classification of crimes. In addition, students will cover who can be held responsible for crimes, and what defenses may be raised to negate criminal liability for otherwise criminal conduct. Students will also differentiate between murder and manslaughter, embezzlement and fraud, rape and sexual harassment, assault and battery, espionage and treason, money laundering and racketeering.
