The course is an introduction to the basic demographic concepts, methods and measures, aimed at equipping students with the capacity to compute, interpret and appreciate the uses of demographic data. Issues addressed include sources of demographic data, basic rates and ratios, population composition, fertility measures, mortality measures, migration measures, measures of population change and perspectives.
