Course Description & Objectives: 

Educational Development after independence provides opportunity for students to gain knowledge of education inherited at independence. This course will create awareness of educational challenges brought by the colonial education, strategies the leadership of Uganda adopted to align education to the needs of Uganda. The course therefore explores issues such as curriculum relevance, access, and quality education. It enables student to analyze policy implementations and their effects.

Learning Outcomes: 

This course will enable students to:

  1. Analyze educational challenges at independence
  2. Describe education contributions of different education commission (Castle Commission, the 1964 Education Act, 1970 Act, 2008 Act) to educational development in Uganda
  3. Appraise educational policies governing post colonial education
