The course introduces the concept of welfare in the first section within the context of changing social and economic environment and how this change affects the workers' welfare on one hand, and the organization and delivery of welfare services on the other. The course draws our attention to the problems experienced by workers in the formal and informal sectors of the economy and the possible interventions that can be undertaken.
