The course will examine traditional approaches to observance of human rights in both cephalous and cephalous societies, the role of customs and traditions in mediation, conciliation and reaching consensus. Further attention will be focused on the nature of traditional "group rights and duties" and their relation to "individual rights and duties".
By the end of the Course students will:1) Be able to assess the human rights situation in pre-colonial Uganda2) Be able to assess the human rights implications of imperialism, neo-colonialism, globalization on Uganda3) Be able to assess the promotion and protection of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights in Uganda4) Be able to assess monitoring and compliance with human rights in Uganda
