Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is intended to orientate students at master’s level, who intend to specialize in Philosophy of Education to the general growth and development of philosophy as an intellectual and specialized discipline. The aim is to equip the student with a general knowledge of the philosophical and ideological landscape in which Western systems of education originated and continue to thrive in the developing countries. 

Learning Outcomes: 

The course exposes students to the development of philosophy as a discipline. Specifically the course should; 

  1. Analyze the historical evolution of Philosophy from the pre  Socratic philosophers ideas to the contemporary philosophical orientations
  2. Critically discuss the different philosophical orientation to education and teaching.
  3. Identify and discuss the different branches of philosophy and their orientation to education and teaching.
  4. Develop a philosophic approach to life and education in particular.
