Introduction to the underlying dynamics of politics in contemporary Africa.  It examines the African state and its colonial legacy, the role of the state in Africa's development, the underlying basis of African conflicts and the origins and characteristics of Africa's current economic crisis. To acquaint students with these central issues, leading theories on development and underdevelopment are examined
