Course Description & Objectives: 

This course centers on analysis of prevailing circumstances during different periods that shaped education theories and practice. It examines different philosophical ideas, and analyses their effects on the practice of education. It highlights for instance factors that led to arrangement of education according to different levels, changes in teaching approaches, expansion of the curriculum, emphasis on science, among others.  The students are also exposed to challenges created by such changes in today’s education system. 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this course students should able to;

  • Explain factors that shaped different education philosophies
  • Analyze the contributions of educational thinkers to the practice of education
  • Analyze the implications of these ideas to the current educational theory and practice in Uganda.
