Course Description & Objectives: 

In the information or knowledge society, it is important to recognize and protect knowledge created, developed and enhanced by communities of people, and which acknowledges that men and women have differential access to the structures that shape knowledge systems. Such an instrument needs to be developed with the full participation of all parties who hold such knowledge, including men and women, especially information professionals that are engaged in information capture, storage, processing and dissemination.

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be expected to:

  • Develop an understanding of the ideology and historical developments of gender in the information society.
  • Contextualise the gender information needs and how it relates to the development within an information society.
  • Apply the concept of gender information within the information and knowledge society for socio-economic development.
