Course Description & Objectives: 
  • Uneven trade: Uneven trade during the mercantile era; Colonial and Post-colonial periods.
  • Financial Crises and Private Capital Flows. These will include the depression of the 1930s, the oil crisis, the Indonesian Pertamina crisis of 1974, the Latin American Crisis, The Asian Crisis.
  • The post-World War International Financial Framework: The Bretton Woods System (IMF, IBRD, IFC, ITO), The International Trade Framework (GATT, WTO, Stock Markets).
  • Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs) and third world development
