Course Description & Objectives: 

Basics of Kiswahili orthography; pronunciations; the sound system and stress patterns of Kiswahili grammar;Kiswahili in cultural context i.e. greetings, polite requests etc; the four language skills shall be equally emphasised; listening shall be developed through simple recorded dialogue and stories, pass time; pleasurable Kiswahili verses and songs; Radio programmes; reading extracts by the students themselves; Reading shall be enhanced through simple stories, dialogues and other types of elementary writing; calls-produced extracts; Writing of daily personal experiences, simple narratives, writing what is heard from listening exercises.  Speaking skills shall be developed through speech pronunciation practise, introductory to pictorial analysis; Recitals of pleasurable verses/songs; reported accounts after demonstration or experiences; dramatised speech acts.
