Course Description & Objectives: 
  1. Nature and sources of law. 
  2. Classification of law.
  3. Sources: principal and subsidiary.
  4. Common Law and equity. 
  5. Statute law.
  6. Court system in East African legal terminology.
  7. Law of Contract
  8. The essentials of a valid contract; offer and acceptance intention to create legal relations.
  9. Terms of contract, consideration, form.  Capacity of the parties, reality of consent; vitiating factors: mistake, misrepresentation, duress an undue influence,
  10.  Contracts uberrimae fidei and illegality.
  11.  Discharge of contracts by performance, agreement, frustration (subsequent impossibility), and breaches operation of law.
  12. Remedies: damages, injunctions, and specific performance.  Limitation of actions, privity of contract and assignment of chose in action.
  13.  Hire-purchase contracts, bachments.
