Course Description & Objectives: 

The course is designed for students with little or no background in music education. Through listening to a variety of musics, the students will be introduced to the language, which will be used when referring to music, musical instruments and musical types. It will offer the basic knowledge required to be able to understand the fundamentals of music notation allowing students to be able to read and write music. Emphasis will be placed upon the development of elementary musical skills in hearing, reading and writing music through participation and listening.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Objectives: 

  • To acquire a common vocabulary, which will allow students to examine music from the musician’s perspective
  •  To acquire elementary skills of hearing, reading and writing musical sound
  • To offer knowledge about the basic fundamentals of music
Learning Outcomes: 
  • Ability to identify notes on a stave
  • Ability to understand music notation principles
  • Ability to understand key concepts in music notation
  • Ability to read a simple score
  • Ability to sight sing a simple melody
