Course Description & Objectives: 

Introduces students to the study of Social Anthropology, concepts and theories used in social anthropology. Aimed at developing a sense of the variation and similarities in human cultures, make students appreciate culture as a holistic, and integrated system in contemporary societies.  Development of Social Anthropology as a discipline and its relevance in contemporary situation. Explores the subject matter and history of African Studies; contemporary debates in African studies, including setting agendas, control of knowledge, relationships with other disciplines will be addressed. Other areas of focus include international inequalities and the place of Africa.
