Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is designed for students with little or no background in keyboard playing. This course will develop the basic skills of keyboard playing, music reading, and keyboard techniques such as scales, chords, hand position and fingering. The course is heavily grounded in practical performance and theory is only to enhance the practice. Every student must participate in the Departmental Performances as part of course work.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Objectives: 

  • To equip students with knowledge to handle, care and store keyboards
  • To develop the skills of keyboard playing
  • To equip students with skills to enable them pursue and engage in creative and aesthetic expression
  • To equip students with aural and sight singing skills

 

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Ability to appreciate the keyboard as a basic tool for studying, arranging, composing, and performing music
  • Ability to play and perform solo and ensemble pieces
  • Ability to hear and write down (aural skills) simple melodies
  • Ability to sight sing simple melodies
  • Ability to conduct organized rehearsals
