Course Description & Objectives: 

The course elucidates the principles of public health emergency management and how to effectively participate in preparedness including prevention and mitigation and response interventions to public health emergencies.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Explain the different types of public health emergencies.
  2. Identify and categorise the causes of disasters i.e. natural and manmade or technological.
  3. Describe interventions to be taken during the various phases i.e. before, during and after an emergency.
  4. Collect, process and disseminate data relating to public health emergencies.   
  5. Demonstrate the ability to liaise with different partners in the containment of public health emergencies.
  6. Prepare emergency preparedness plans
