Course Description & Objectives: 

The theoretical aspects of the course are covered in lectures and detailed studies on: principle of measurement and documentation used in measurement; and descriptive clauses in the Standard System of Measuring Building Work(6th ed.).  The practical component of the syllabus is a progression from the prerequisites course Measurement and Design Appraisal.  The principles of measurement are applied to advanced projects with particular emphasis on simple framed and load – bearing multi-storey buildings by means of elemental quantification, covering:  Foundation; Reinforced Concrete Structures; Plumbing and Drainage; Architectural Metal Work; Structural Steel Work; Specialist Work; and External Works.  The practical require complete computerized documentation with competence in the WinQS Software Package.  Students measure all elements of a small commercial structure.
