Course Description & Objectives: 

The aim of this course is to expose students to issues of social responsibility in their future professional activities through analysis of case studies, exchange of information and affirmation and contestation of values by students; and professional input through lectures.  Considers the need for rules of professional conduct and practice; practice procedures for construction management; educational requirements and professional training; joint building council and professional organizations in building and construction industry and their status in Uganda; the independent role of a project manager; an examination of contract documents currently in use in Uganda with their interpretation; specifications writing; specification defined, functions of drawings and specifications distinguished,  discretionary powers of architect and engineer in specifications, use of standards products in specification.  Professional Institutes:  Roles, Codes of Conduct; Fee Scales; Professional Indemnity Insurance; The Consultant/Client Agreement; Contract Administration:  Variation Orders, Interim Payments and Final Accounts; Tax Depreciation Schedules; Office Management.
