The aim of this course is to deal with measurements techniques and description of building works for the purpose of preparing bills of quantities and other documents. Historical development of quantity surveying function and professional; the role of a quantity surveyor in a building project and the purpose of bills of quantities, historical evolution of measurement, introduction to communication of data in construction industry, their uses and application in tender and construction process, the theory of measurement and description of building works; measurements from drawings; application of principles of measurements and description of work to elementary examples; simple strip foundations, isolated base, gates, etc.
