Course Description & Objectives: 

This course focuses on the following issues, Course resources survey and appraisal Resource base and development, Theories of development: ideologies of modernization / capitalists, Socialist approaches. Dependency and development, Core and Periphery theory of development, Socio-economic effects of resource utilization and contribution of the latter on the process of development. Utilization and development of Uganda’s resources base over time and space.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Aim of the course:To develop among students a deeper international understanding of world resources and how they affect the political, economic and social cultural development of the world. 

Learning Outcomes: 
  • The course will develop in the students’ values of cooperation, teamwork, use of IT in research and interpretation of the world events.
  • The students will identify and evaluate the major resources of the world and their effects on development.
  • Students will assess the effect of resource development on the environment, international relations and development as a whole.
  • Students will internalize alternative methods of exploitation of resources.
  • Students will explain the development of Uganda’s resources in modern times.
