Course Description & Objectives: 

The sociological analysis of development processes in rural areas of developing countries, with particular emphasis on East Africa. The course provides a frame of reference in which the sociological aspects of both the potential and the problems of rural development can be assessed.  It addresses the increasing need to plan using social indicators and forecasts of social and structural trends, and the dynamic reorganization of rural communities.
