Course Description & Objectives: 

The class will focus on analyzing the relationships between knowledge and existence, and traces the forms this relationship has taken in the intellectual development of humankind.  The course integrates theory and knowledge in explaining the existence of society, examines the theories of social determination of knowledge, problems of technique in historical - sociological research and demonstration of the partial nature of traditional epistemology. Key scholars addressed include Michael Foucault, Randy Collins, Karl Marx, and Pierre Bourdieu.
