Course Description & Objectives: 

This is a first course in solar energy with the aim of providing basic principles for research in solar energy at a higher level. The course is divided into two parts: solar radiation fundamentals and solar energy utilization. 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Explain the spectral distribution of solar energy;
  • Analyze thermal conversion of solar energy with respect to the different surfaces;
  • Explain photovoltaic conversion of solar energy.
  • Design solar thermal panels and solar heating systems;
  • Advise the general public about the most efficient ways of solar energy utilization.
