Course Description & Objectives: 

The basic goal of Integrated Solid Waste Management is to manage society’s waste in a manner that meets public health and en­vironmental concerns and the public’s desire to reuse and recycle waste materials. The Public authorities must be able to deal with waste as economically and safely as possible. Waste produced by a community may, if left uncontrolled, not only be an aesthetic problem, but also pose serious pollution and health risks.  

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Have understanding of the importance and the evolution of Solid Waste Management.
  • Have knowledge about the sources, types, composition, and the properties of solid waste.
  • Be able to illustrate and give direction on the handling and separation, storage and processing of solid waste.
  • Have knowledge on the solid waste materials and apply separation and transformation technol­ogies
  • Be able to demonstrate the importance of material recycling and energy recovery from sol­id waste
