Course Description & Objectives: 

 This course trains third year students on how to handle children with special needs. The course is divided into the eight major topics:   

  1. Nature of special needs education
  2. Visual impairment
  3. Hearing impairment
  4. Learning impairment
  5. Mental retardation
  6. Giftedness
  7. Sensory-motor and health disorders
  8. Communication disorders

 

Learning Outcomes: 

 By the end of the semester, the teacher trainees should be able to 

  1. Acquire knowledge on how to handle children with exceptionalities within their classes.
  2. Assess the performance of disabled students.
  3. Develop special material to be used in the teaching of children with disabilities.
  4. Appreciate the simple remedies to be performed on children with disabilities in terms of medical intervention and rehabilitation.
