Course Description & Objectives: 

This course will cover the emergence of modern terrorism from several different areas of the world.  Students will acquire knowledge of the terrorist philosophy and how the history of terrorism has influenced subsequent movements; attain an appreciation for the complexity and challenge of Terrorism. Students should also be able to identify elements of the criminological perspective of terrorism, examine viewpoints of various experts in the field of counter terrorism, and take a critical look at the research of terrorism and irregular warfare in the 21st Century. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate knowledge on how to explain the problems of the contextual meaning of terrorism, develop a framework from both the criminology and criminal justice professional perspectives in order to analyze terrorism and terrorists.
