Course Description & Objectives: 

Theories of education and their implications to learning and teaching explore the different philosophical orientations and their application to teaching and learning. The aim of this course is to enable students to meaningfully and articulately engage in discussions and debates for meaningful improvement of teaching methods and reform of educational systems in Uganda; hence deepen their study and understanding of the dimensions of education to which teachers are exposed, for the benefit of understanding various opinions and adopting the best of these opinions.  

Learning Outcomes: 

This course should enable students to:

  1. Examine the different justifications and theories of education
  2. Critique to the different theories of education and rate their applicability in everyday educational practice.
  3. Apply the different theories of education to their educational theory and practice
