A course in genetics for the M.Med degree in pathology is opportune now when medical and molecular genetics have been fully appreciated as unique specialties necessary in medicine. The aetiology and pathogenesis of genetic disorders or those diseases influenced by inherited factors need to be known by the pathologist to enable him/her guide the clinicians in their diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
