Course Description & Objectives: 

This course introduces students to major aspects of Kiswahili culture and compares some Kiswahili cultural practices to those of other societies. The course also looks at the effects of interaction of the Swahili people with people from other societies. Aspects of Swahili oral literature such as riddles, proverbs, superstitions, taboos will also be looked at.

Learning Outcomes: 
  1. identify cultural aspects and practices of the Waswahili
  2. compare and contrast Swahili culture and that of his/her own society
  3.  evaluate the role and place of culture in a modern society
