Course Description & Objectives: 

This is an introductory course to the study of philosophy of education. It is divided into two main sub topics:

  1. Introduction to philosophy
  2. Philosophical orientation to education and teaching.

                                                                                                                                                                   course objective:The general objective of Philosophical orientation to education and teaching is to enable teacher trainees develop a philosophic attitude of mind (develop a critical/ analytical approach to issues pertaining to education at a micro and macro levels.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, teacher trainees should be able to:

  1. State the nature and purpose of philosophy of education
  2. Use philosophical thought pattern for isolating various educational and professional challenges that perennially intrigue educationists
  3. Identify philosophical problems in education and try to solve them satisfactorily
  4. Employ tools of logic for improving their thinking capacities to deter fundamental error in educational argumentation and analysis
  5. Use philosophical methods of teaching to perfect the teachers skills
  6. Isolate and critically discuss current issues in educational theory and practice.
