Course Description & Objectives: 
  • Functional organic and physical chemistry. Review of nomenclature and isomerism. Organic reactions and physical biochemistry. Reaction kinetics and thermodynamics. Biochemistry and Medicine.
  • Basic elements of life. Major complex biomolecules: Structures occurrence, properties and physiological functions of biomolecules. Properties of electromagnetic radiation's. Review of periodic table and electron events in atoms. Interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter.  UV and VIS spectroscopy:  principles, instrumentation and applications.
  •  Aqueous Solutions, units and calculations; Acid-base chemistry & buffers; Biochemical energics, Enzymology, Amino acids, peptides & proteins, Carbohydrates- structure/functions, Composition of nucleic acids; Gene expression & control, Lipid structure/ functions; Lipid metabolism, hormones, vitamins & cofactors, Carbohydrate metabolism, Nitrogen metabolism, Electrochemical and immunochemical methods.
