Course Description & Objectives: 

This course introduces students to the major methods and methodological approaches in mass communication studies. The course will focus on the principal methods in communication research, including participant observation, surveys and focus groups, policy/archival research, as well as critical analyses of print and visual media. In addition, students will build an understanding of the relevant ethical and practical considerations in designing qualitative and quantitative communication research as part of taking up an individual research project of their own.
