Course Description & Objectives:
- Three Approaches are used in handling this course as follows:
- The Historical Approach high lighting the writers' lives, ethnic, literary, geographical, political, philosophical and religious environments at within which writing took place.
- The major Authors' Approach which revolves around the following:
- The author's appeal to a wide variety of readers
- Influence on other major authors
- Contribution of an "acknowledged masterpiece" to Caribbean Literature
- Sustained a literary career beyond a single four de force
- Pioneer or innovator in subject matter, literary tradition, technique or genre
- Recognized as a major literary critic or historian
