Course Description & Objectives: 
  1. Three Approaches are used in handling this course as follows:
  2. The Historical Approach high lighting the writers' lives, ethnic, literary, geographical, political, philosophical and religious environments at within which writing took place.
  3. The major Authors' Approach which revolves around the following:
  • The author's appeal to a wide variety of readers
  • Influence on other major authors
  • Contribution of an "acknowledged masterpiece" to Caribbean Literature
  • Sustained a literary career beyond a single four de force
  • Pioneer or innovator in subject matter, literary tradition, technique or genre
  • Recognized as a major literary critic or historian
