Course Description & Objectives: 

The course will explore the possible strategies that a teacher can take while handling large language classes in the Ugandan secondary schools. With the advent of Universal Secondary Schools (USE) and privately owned schools, students in a single class seem to have no limit. The course aims at guiding teachers and curriculum designers in probable ways of helping the teacher to be as effective as they would be just like in smaller classes.   Objectives:The course is styled to equip learners with;

  1. knowledge of the various categories of language classes
  2. competence for handling large classes effectively
  3. various activities and materials that are useful in large classes
  4. competence for designing own activities and materials outside the common ones

 

Learning Outcomes: 

Learners will be able to:

  1. categorize the different classes numerically to decide on the class sizes
  2. critique the common opinions about large classes and give their own definitions of large classes Vs. the Education policy
  3. apply the suggested strategies/activities in a large language class
  4. illustrate
