The course covers basic concepts of emergency, disaster, hazards, vulnerability, preparedness, risk reduction, mitigation. The contexts and genealogy of various disaster including natural and manmade (technological) and a hybrid disaster will be addressed.The disaster cycle will be presented and analysed. Hazards and vulnerability analysis will be undertaken. The principles of disaster preparedness and response, risk reductions and management strategies will be discussed. Frameworks for disaster risk reduction including (Hygo Framework for Action) will be presented and discussed. Stakeholders involved in disaster interventions (mandates and roles) including government, NGO and UN agencies and communities will be discussed. The effects of various disasters, preventive and mitigation, risk reduction strategies for various typologies of disasters will be discussed. Objective:
